Board of Directors



Executive Director

Sara Weinberg is the Executive Director of the AJA.

Sara received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Columbia College and her J.D. from Columbia Law School. During her time at Columbia Law, Sara was chosen as a James Kent Scholar (2008-2009), Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar (2007-2008, 2009-2010) and a Warner W. Gardner Summer Research Fellow (2008). She also served as the Program Chair of the Jewish Law Students Association, wrote for the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems, served as a Teaching Fellow (Property) and volunteered for the Tenants' Rights Project.

Sara practiced Trusts & Estates for a number of years, first as an associate at McDermott Will & Emery, and then at Fox Rothschild. While at Fox Rothschild, Sara co-authored a number of articles with Debra T. Hirsch regarding Israeli tax law and its effect on U.S. trusts and grantors.

In the Fall of 2016, Sara left private practice to create and serve as Executive Director of the Association of Jewish Attorneys. Her goal is to create an active Jewish bar association that fosters a sense of community and provides tangible benefits to its members by facilitating, among other things, opportunities for networking, cross referrals and shared resources and knowledge.

Samuel M. Shiel is Director of National Title Services and Senior Underwriting Counsel – Vice President for Madison Title Agency. In this position since 2005, Sam oversees complex, large multi-state transactions and manages national underwriting operations. Before joining Madison, Sam was Vice President and Counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Company’s National Title Service department for the New York region. While serving in this capacity, he was appointed one of Stewart Title’s Senior Underwriting Counsel with nationwide underwriting authority. Previously, Sam served as Assistant Vice President and National Commercial Counsel of the Chicago Title Insurance Company in New York City for over eight years.

Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, Sam holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law.

Sam has held memberships in the American Bar Association, American Corporate Counsel Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association.  In his own community, Sam has served various board positions in his Synagogue, including President.  He has also had leadership roles in his children's schools.  

He and his wife Chava are proud parents of 1 son and 3 daughters.  



Dov Tratner is Managing Partner of Tratner & Associates PLLC, which primarily handles commercial and high-end residential real estate transactions in the New York metro area.   Mr. Tratner is responsible for generating business and servicing existing clients, and specializes in negotiating and drafting real estate contracts, facilitating commercial and residential property development projects, financing, Real Estate Investment Trusts, land sales, title issues, escrow arrangements, environmental matters, and rights of way.  He also has deep experience with leasing, lease disputes and property management issues.  Mr. Tratner has also been involved with several bond offerings on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange by New York-based real estate owners. 

Dov Tratner’s father, Louis Tratner, established his own law firm and was well-known in the NY real estate community. Dov Tratner joined his father’s firm a few years before his father’s passing and, upon his father’s demise in 2013, founded the firm of Tratner and Associates PLLC.

Dov Tratner earned his Bachelor’s degree from ITRI University in Jerusalem, Israel in 2002 and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from Fordham Law School in 2011.  Mr. Tratner is an active member of the NY State Bar Association and the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey.

Eliana is a member of Fox Rothschild’s Family Law department and focuses her practice on representing clients on issues relating to divorce, equitable distribution, cohabitation, paternity, nuanced support, custody, adoption, domestic violence, social media, premarital agreements, post-judgment matters and appeals.

Among her leadership roles in the firm, Eliana serves as the associate liaison to the Princeton office managing partner as well as other members of the firm’s management. She also serves as a mentor to the firm’s summer associates as part of Fox’s summer program.  In addition, Eliana serves as chair on the associate steering committee for Fox’s Women’s Initiative.  

For those simply contemplating separation or already in the midst of divorce proceedings in the Garden State, the useful tools included in Fox’s New Jersey Divorce App that Eliana helped to develop can answer questions, offer insight into aspects of the divorce process that may have been overlooked and provide users with resources they may not have known were available.  The app is currently available for free in the iTunes Store.



Jason Flynn has his own law practice with an office in East Brunswick, New Jersey.  Jason services clients throughout northern and central New Jersey. Jason’s primary arears of practice are Family Law, including divorce and custody, as well as Estate Planning and Estate Administration / Probate. Mr. Flynn is a court approved Mediator in family law matters. He has completed New Jersey’s required forty hours of training in the area of mediation. He is available to mediate family law matters, for divorce or post-divorce issues, regardless of whether the areas of disagreement are finance or custody related, or both.


Jason Flynn received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (2000). Mr. Flynn is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. While at Cardozo, he spent a semester as a legal intern for the Honorable John W. Bissell, a Federal District Judge, District of New Jersey. After graduation, Jason began his career as an international tax and compensation consultant at Ernst & Young, LLP in New York City. Jason taught business law courses at New York Institute of Technology’s School of Management in Manhattan. Prior to launching his private practice law firm in 2009, Jason was the Director of Legal and Corporate Research at Business Licenses, LLC, in Airmont, New York. Mr. Flynn is available to present seminars on varying family and estate planning matters. Mr. Flynn provides pro-bono counsel services for Partners for Women and Justice. These services have included handling complex domestic violence restraining order trials.


Mr. Flynn lives in East Brunswick, New Jersey, with his wife and four children. He is an active member of various community organizations. When he is not practicing law, he is often found at his children’s little league games, the gym or a Mets game.



Aline Grossman, Esq. is an associate with Feinstein Raiss Kelin Booker & Goldstein LLC (FRKB&G). Aline's practice focuses on real estate acquisitions, business formations, the establishment of holding companies, the sale of assets and equitable interests, and other business transactions. She has broad experience in advising corporations and closely held limited liability companies on governance and management, as well as in counseling businesses and individuals on regulatory compliance and risk management issues.

??In 1995, Aline earned joint Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration degrees from Brooklyn Law School and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. She is a member of the New York and New Jersey Bars. An active volunteer in the legal field, Aline serves as a mediator for the New Jersey Judiciary Foreclosure Mediation Program, in which homeowners have access to lenders and counsel for the purpose of resolving loan delinquencies in advance of foreclosure.



Debra T. Hirsch is a partner in the northern NJ and New York City offices of Fox Rothschild LLP, an 800-attorney law firm with 22 offices nationwide. With more than 35 years of tax law experience, Debra represents clients in sophisticated federal, New Jersey and New York gift and estate tax planning, trust and will preparation, and trust and estate administration. She has prepared more than 500 wills and hundreds of estate plans in her career for a range of clients with various assets. Clients appreciate her patience, understanding demeanor and skill in explaining complex tax structures. Debra customizes estate plans to her clients’ needs and goals, not just their assets.

Debra is also a member of Fox’s Israel practice group and has a particular focus on advising individuals and fiduciaries on matters involving the United States and Israel. She has experience with U.S. estate planning for dual citizens who are residents of Israel and navigating tax issues for U.S. citizens who have children or grandchildren in Israel. Debra helped prepare and author the Estate Planning Strategist (2014), a resource for attorneys and accountants on sophisticated tax and estate planning topics, including recommended forms.



Yosef B. Jacobovitch has his own law practice with an office in Lakewood, New Jersey. Yosef focuses exclusively on the practice of criminal law. This exclusive focus allows him to refine his defense strategies and understand the practical aspects of the law in their finest detail. Yosef defends citizens throughout New Jersey, and is easily accessible for clients in Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, and Ocean counties.

Yosef graduated from Rutgers Camden Law School. While there he held an internship at The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. This experience gave him in-depth access to the type of strategic thinking employed by criminal prosecutors, an invaluable knowledge base from which effective defense tactics for those accused of criminal acts can be developed.

Yosef, a volunteer paramedic on Lakewood Hatzolah, resides in Lakewood with his wife and their 8 children.



David Joyandeh is an attorney at Buckalew Frizzell & Crevina LLP in Glen Rock, NJ. He practices primarily real estate law with a particular focus on community association law, representing condominium and homeowner associations throughout New Jersey. He also represents various clients who are in the process of purchasing or selling residential or commercial real estate.

David earned his J.D. from New York Law School and his B.A., summa cum laude, Yeshiva University, where he was awarded the Wall Street Journal Award for Excellence in Economics and Service to the Department. He is admitted to the bars of New Jersey, New York, and U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.

David resides in Teaneck, NJ with his wife and their children.



Mr. Kelin, along with Lawrence Raiss, is a Managing Partner at Feinstein Raiss Kelin Booker & Goldstein LLC Mr. Kelin is recognized for his experience and expertise in the areas of investment real estate transactions and financing. He represents purchasers and sellers of apartment complexes, office buildings, shopping centers and industrial facilities throughout New Jersey. He concentrates his practice in corporate and commercial law as well. Mr. Kelin's practice also includes formation and structuring of real estate partnerships and limited liability companies.

Mr. Kelin is a past President of the Property Owners Association of New Jersey and has authored articles published in the Property Owners Association News and Views. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Apartment Association. Mr. Kelin has participated in seminars for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and other organizations. He was recognized by the NJ/PA Real Estate Journal.

Formerly a law clerk for Judges Leo Yanoff and Thomas Dalton, Mr. Kelin also served as a student law clerk to former Federal Appellate Judge John Gibbons. He is a graduate of Rutgers College in New Brunswick and Rutgers University School of Law-Newark. Mr. Kelin is admitted to the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania Bars.



Jan Meyer, Esq., founder of the Law Offices of Jan Meyer and Associates, P.C., has more than 23 years of extensive experience in the areas such as Catastrophic Personal Injury Litigation, Complex Commercial Litigation, Construction litigation, Land Use law and Commercial Real Estate. In addition to representing the firm’s clients, he is also managing the day to day operation of his 9 attorney New Jersey and New York law firm. A native of Denmark, Mr. Meyer speaks seven languages and has an advanced degree in business from a renowned European business school as well as his Juris Doctor.

Prior to beginning his legal career in 1990, Mr. Meyer ran his own commercial enterprise, an experience that has made him particularly effective representing clients. In 2011, Mr. Meyer brought the seminal case of Pomerantz Paper v New Community, et al 207 N.J. 344, (2011) to the New Jersey Supreme Court, in which the court ruled disallowing net opinion expert testimony. The case is extensively cited in relation to expert testimony. He is a member of the New York, New Jersey, DC, and US Supreme Court bars as well as several US Courts of Appeal. Mr. Meyer is active on a number of corporate boards, a Barrister at the Justice Morris Pashman Inn of Court, the chairperson of the Teaneck Zoning Board of Adjustment and active member of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Squad.

E. David Smith, Esq., is principal of Smith & Associates, and serves as outside general counsel for US and foreign companies, family enterprises and family offices.  Andrew L. Van Houter is a senior associate at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP and focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, representing Fortune 100 companies, hedge funds and smaller businesses in both business disputes and consumer class actions. Andrew also assists clients in responding to governmental inquiries and investigations and defends clients facing criminal prosecution. 

Andrew is a frequent contributor the SEC Law Perspectives Blog, which provides reports, discussions, and analyses on noteworthy trends in enforcement and regulatory activity of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and other agencies, such as the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.  Andrew is also a frequent author on the TCPA Blog, which reports on recent decisions relating to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.  Additionally, Andrew is a member of the New Jersey Law Journal’s Young Lawyer’s Advisory Board and authors periodical articles on topics of particular interest to young lawyers. 

Prior to joining Drinker Biddle, Andrew was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where he represented global financial institutions and corporations in multiple types of litigation, including breach of contract matters, federal and state securities claims relating to mortgage-backed securities and “naked” short sales, shareholder derivative actions, antitrust and commodity manipulation class actions, employment discrimination actions and claims brought under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to alleged money laundering. At Sullivan & Cromwell, Andrew also conducted internal investigations concerning anti-money laundering practices, suspicious trading and allegations of abuse at a university.

Andrew graduated from Lander College for Men in 2009 and then attended Seton Hall University School of Law.  At Seton Hall, Andrew was a submissions editor for the Seton Hall Law Review and a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court team, winning first place at the BMI Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition.  Andrew was also a member of the Impact Litigation Clinic and was recognized for his contributions to an amicus brief on behalf of applicants to the FDNY who were discriminated against.  During law school, Andrew interned both for the Chief Justice of New Jersey and for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Securities Fraud Prosecution.  Andrew graduated Seton Hall in 2012, summa cum laude and was inducted to the Order of the Coif.   



Miriam B. Weinstein, Esq, is the founder and sole practitioner of the law firm of Weinstein Law Office PC. Ms. Weinstein has 18 years of extensive experience representing clients in the area of transactional real estate, ranging from residential transactions to large sophisticated commercial transactions, including purchases of retail shopping centers, apartment complexes, school facilities and large tracts of land for development. Ms. Weinstein represents clients in financing for construction loans and other large loans. In addition, Ms. Weinstein specializes in the area of Land Use and represents clients at Zoning and Planning Board hearings, handling projects from the design stage through completion of the projects and out sales of the units. Ms. Weinstein also represents clients in the areas of commercial leasing and in nursing home acquisitions and refinances.

Prior to starting her own law firm, Ms. Weinstein served as a real estate associate at the firm of Greenbaum., Rowe, Smith et al and at the Law Firm of Abraham M. Penzer.

Ms. Weinstein received her juris doctor from Rutgers Law School, where she graduated cum laude, despite being a mother to four young children at the time. She was also the recipient of the H. Theodore Sorg Prize for highest average in Property. She graduated summa cum laude with a GPA of 4.0 from Hunter College of the City University of New York with a Bachelors in Economics.

Prior to beginning her legal career in 2000, Ms. Weinstein worked in the field of marketing for several high tech companies. Ms. Weinstein also served as a member of the Lakewood Township Zoning Board of Adjustment and is on the Board of Directors of the Lightstone Value Plus Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc. Ms. Weinstein also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Batya, a Not for Profit Corporation that focuses on the growth and development of Jewish teenage girls.
